The Baltic Dry Index, an overall measure of commodity shipping costs, fell for the past three weeks amid signs China's steelmakers are using up stockpiles of iron ore and curbing imports. Shipping derivatives show some traders are speculating the cost of hiring panamaxes will advance at least 22 percent during the final three months of the year.
Panamaxes are the largest commodity carriers to sail though the Panama Canal. Derivatives called forward freight agreements indicate the average cost of hiring such vessels will be $57,200 a day in the final three months of 2008, compared with $48,872 a day on Sept. 5.
On Aug. 27, the contracts indicated the market would rise by 31 percent in the fourth quarter, boosted by rising demand from China's steelmakers and a seasonal increase in grain shipments.

- Giá cước giảm do giá dầu giảm (Giá dầu giảm ~ 40%)


- Nhu cầu sụt giảm đến từ Trung Quốc (Olympic): Bị ảnh hưởng nặng nhất là đội tàu Capesize (Tàu to khủng bố) BCI


Về đội tàu nhỏ hơn thì sao: Panamax, Supramax, Handymax (BSI, BHI..), "Panamaxeslà tàu hàng to nhất có thể quađược kênhđàoPanama"(He, Capesize muốn tranh mối hàng tuyến này là chịu rùi),OlympicBKđã kết thúc, dự báo nhu cầuđặc biệt là nhập quặng sắt TQ tăng cao,các tháng cuối năm là caođiểm vận tải ngũ cốc, vì thế..."Tiền thuê tàu trung bình $57,200/ngày các tháng cuối năm 2008,so với$48,872/ngày hiện nay". Các hợpđồng thuê tàu cho những tháng cuối năm cho thấy mức tăng khoảng 31%".

BDI in for strong recovery


"........Kenanga Research -expected that the BDI to make a strong comeback post-Olympics when steel mills and plants re-commence operations.
In addition, the BDI should also be driven by the peak US grain export period in fourth quarter.
