FINANCIAL CRISIS - 2007 GMT

CIT rescue deal; mixed U.S. recovery signs
* CIT board approves $3 bln deal with bondholders -sources
* U.S. recession easing but not yet ended -survey
* German economy likely contracted in Q2 -Bundesbank
* U.S blue chips jump 104 pts; dollar, yen weaker

NEW YORK, July 20 (Reuters) - U.S. lender CIT Group Inc secured a $3 billion rescue from bondholders, sources said, which some saw as a good omen for credit markets, although the U.S. economy is still struggling to emerge from recession.
Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, the pace of the most bruising global economic downturn in decades is slowing, Germany's central bank said.
The CIT news and a small rise in the U.S. index of leading economic indicators helped lift U.S. and European shares, while Asian stocks outside Japan hit their highest level since last September when Wall St Investment bank Lehman Brothers collapsed. Hopes of a recovery in corporate earnings in the months ahead also helped.

FIRST ON REUTERS:

Reuters alone with regulator source on new delay to GDF Suez LNG terminal
Reuters was alone among major newswires in getting French regulator CRE to state that GDF Suez’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at Fos-Cavaou in southern France is facing a further delay. Paris energy correspondent Muriel Boselli got an official to say the terminal would not start operating until the end of 2009, bringing the accumulated delays to 2-1/2 years. The news was critical for the market as the planned terminal would double GDF Suez’s capacity to receive LNG on the Mediterranean coast. Oil major Total is a minority shareholder in the operation, holding a 30 percent stake versus 70 percent for GDF Suez.

MARKET NEWS:

OIL: Crude rises above $64 on reviving recovery hopes
TOKYO, July 21 (Reuters) - U.S. crude futures rose above $64 a barrel, extending the previous day's gains, when a weak dollar and optimism reflected in stronger equities markets boosted oil prices.
OPEC will need to cut output when it next meets in September if there is not enough demand for its oil, Algeria's energy and mines minister said on Monday.

NATURAL GAS: Natural gas ends up slightly, weather, storage weigh
NEW YORK, July 20 (Reuters) - New York Mercantile Exchange natural gas futures, backed by firmer cash prices and concerns about tropical activity in the Atlantic, ended slightly higher on Monday, but fairly mild U.S. weather forecasts, record high storage and slumping industrial demand kept buyers cautious.
"The (hot) weather didn't show up in July, and record high storage is also built into the price. I think we'll just stay in this range until something new happens," said one Pennsylvania-based trader, noting good technical support in the $3.20s but no conviction for prices to move above $4.

COMMODITIES: Copper leads broad rally driven by economic hopes
NEW YORK, July 20 (Reuters) - Copper prices rose 2 percent to hit nine-month highs on Monday, leading a broad rally in commodities, after an index of leading economic indicators suggested the U.S. recession was drawing to a close.
"Appetite for commodities (is) coming back with the hope of an economic recovery," said Alexander Zumpfe, a trader at European precious metals house Heraeus.

GLOBAL MARKETS: Stocks, crude gain on signs of economic recovery
NEW YORK, July 20 (Reuters) - Crude oil and global stocks rose on Monday, lifting a number of major indexes to new 2009 highs, on fresh signs that the U.S. economy is pulling out of recession and as a rescue package for lender CIT sparked optimism about credit markets.
"The confirmation of recovery is coming from top down and bottom up," said Georgina Taylor, equity strategist at Legal & General Investment Management. "Companies are suggesting that things are starting to improve. Economic data is stabilizing."

Pasadena Refinery restored crude unit feed -filing
HOUSTON, July 20 (Reuters) - Pasadena Refining System lost feed to its 100,000-barrel-per-day crude unit on Saturday, but was able to restore crude supply to the key refining unit on Sunday, according to a notice posted Monday with Texas pollution regulators.
A lightning strike cut crude being supplied from a nearby storage tank to the refinery's crude unit, which does the initial refining of oil in a refinery, according to a notice filed with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

U.S. retail gasoline price lowest in 8 weeks-Govt
WASHINGTON, July 20 (Reuters) - The average price U.S. drivers paid for gasoline fell to $2.46 a gallon, the lowest level in eight weeks, the Energy Department said on Monday.
The national price for regular unleaded gasoline dropped 6.5 cents over the last week and was down $1.60 from a year ago, the department's Energy Information Administration said in its weekly survey of service stations.

Ecuador mulls 2-year oil supply deal with China
QUITO, July 20 (Reuters) - Ecuador is negotiating a two-year oil supply contract with China for which the Andean country would receive $1 billion as an advance payment, Economic Policy Minister Diego Borja told Reuters on Monday.
"(The $1 billion) is a down payment for oil sales. We're going to agree to supply 96,000 barrels per day at the day's price for 24 months," Borja told Reuters in a telephone interview.

Transocean wins Brazil ultra-deepwater contract
SAN FRANCISCO, July 20 (Reuters) - Transocean Ltd said on Monday it won a contract from Brazil's Petrobras for its ultra-deepwater Cajun Express rig worth $558.5 million over three years starting in early 2010.
The three-year contract works out to a day rate of about $510,000, compared with the semisubmersible rig's current rate of $490,000 per day in a contract in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico with Chevron Corp, which runs until January.

Fire still burns at Citgo Corpus Christi refinery
HOUSTON, July 20 (Reuters) - A fire continued to burn in an alkylation unit at Citgo Petroleum Corp's 163,000 barrel per day (bpd) refinery in Corpus Christi, Texas, on Monday, while other refinery units were still operating, a company spokesman said.
A worker, Gabriel Alvarado, 34, severely burned when the blaze broke out on Sunday morning underwent surgery at a San Antonio hospital on Monday, said sources familiar with his treatment.

Petrobras has protected position in sub-salt oil
WASHINGTON, July 20 (Reuters) - Brazil's state-run oil company Petrobras will have a "protected position" in the development of the country's deep offshore oil discovery, a government official said on Monday.
Brazilian Energy Minister Edison Lobao would not say exactly how Petrobras would be favored under the plan being formed to govern the nation's massive offshore oil find located through a thick layer of salt miles below the ocean's surface.

OPEC may need to cut output in Sept-Algeria
MILAN, July 20 (Reuters) - OPEC will need to cut output when it next meets in September if there is not enough demand for its oil, Algeria's energy and mines minister said on Monday.
"I think OPEC's objective is to satisfy demand in the world market and to meet any real demand," Chakib Khelil told reporters in Milan on the sidelines of a conference.

POLL - U.S. crude stocks drop, refined products up
NEW YORK, July 20 (Reuters) - U.S. crude oil inventories likely fell last week for the seventh straight week as slow imports countered a decline in refining activity, a Reuters survey of 10 analysts on Monday showed.
Refined products supplies, meanwhile, were expected to have risen despite the lower domestic fuel production rates, according to the survey.

BEYOND THE HEADLINES:

U.S. oil refiners face major cuts, slow recovery
NEW YORK/HOUSTON, July 20 (Reuters) - The recession-battered U.S. oil refining industry may be forced to eliminate more jobs and further curtail capacity in the face of limp demand, tighter U.S. environmental regulations and stricter fuel-efficiency requirements for automobiles.
In the coming months, more refiners may be forced to shut additional units and slash employee numbers due to dismal demand for petroleum fuels.

Yemen LNG's first cargo delayed to Sept
DUBAI, July 20 (Reuters) - Total-led Yemen LNG has delayed the first cargo from its liquefied natural gas plant to mid-September from August due to minor technical problems, Yemen LNG's chief executive said on Monday.
The project is the first for LNG from the impoverished Arab state, and is its largest industrial project. LNG is gas chilled to its liquid form for export.

Indian Oil cautious on foreign refinery projects
NEW DELHI, July 20 (Reuters) - Indian Oil Corp will be cautious in taking on new foreign refinery projects until 2011/12 as it is committed to large domestic projects, although it would consider projects if it got a stake in exploration and production assets.
S. V. Narasimhan, director of finance at the state-run firm that controls over half of India's retail fuel market, said cash flow from fuel sales could not be predicted due to volatile markets and government controls, making it harder to commit to long-term projects.

Angola LNG to start production Q1 2012 -director
LUANDA, July 20 (Reuters) - Angola's first liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant should be ready to start exporting gas in the first quarter of 2012, the director of the project said, despite higher-than-expected costs for the plant.
"The project is on track," Daniel Rocha, director of Angola LNG, told Reuters in an interview on Monday.

"The (hot) weather didn't show up in July, and record high storage is also built into the price. I think we'll just stay in this range until something new happens," said one Pennsylvania-based trader, noting good technical support in the $3.20s but no conviction for prices to move above $4.

Hopes of a recovery in corporate earnings in the months ahead also helped.

lại khá linh động và tương đối an toàn.

Chỉ số tham chiếu NZX 50 của New Zealand tăng 1.5%, đạt 2,862.6.
